Candyland Tie Dye

I am literally dyeing over here... tie dyeing. 

I made this tablecloth for my roommate's birthday party. The theme is Candyland. It's 3.5 yards and I managed to not make too much of a mess, considering it's 40 degrees outside and I had to do the whole thing inside (Good dye fixation requires warmer temps). Anyhow, I'm pretty excited about the effects of tie dye, as there's a lot more than rainbow spirals. I will definitely be experimenting with more sarongs and bandanas once the weather gets nicer.

Tonight's pattern doodle is inspired by all the block printing and interesting motifs I saw in India. Included are architectural elements, the moon, sweets, temple bells, cobras, and the lotus flower.

Thursday: Chocolates

Posts have been a little slow this week, but I assure you I've still been doing patterns. My boyfriend and I were traveling in Boston and didn't have great internet connectivity. On Thursday, we found a Lindt Chocolates store, and bought many different flavors of the Lindor Truffles. After eating about half of them, I decided to draw the rest.

Day 1

This blog is a chance to get back something I gave up in grad school -- my art hobbies. Here I will study a long time obsession: pattern. My guidebook is Noah Scalin's 365: A Daily Creative Journal. In addition to creating my own works, I will feature historic and contemporary patterns from fashion, architecture, and design.

Day 1's assignment is to create something that will fit in the palm of your hand, using only items in your immediate area. I found some Japanese and French candies in the cupboard and arranged them on a small piece of cardboard.
